Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere Study - SOLAS
An important feature of planetary functioning is the transport of materials and energy between the oceans and the atmosphere. The gas exchanges at the ocean-atmosphere interface is key to the functioning of ocean ecosystems and is an important regulator of atmospheric chemistry and climate. The Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere Study –SOLAS- was launched in 2003 as the first new core project in IGBP-II, and it is co-sponsored by SCOR, WCRP and CACGP. SOLAS Goal
The goal of SOLAS is to achieve quantitative understanding of the key biogeochemical-physical interactions and feedbacks between the ocean and the atmosphere, and how this coupled system affects and is affected by climate and environmental change.Contact:
