Past Global Changes - PAGES

IntegrationThe project Past Global Changes (PAGES) was launched in 1991 to support research aimed at understanding the Earth’s past environment in order to make predictions for the future. The project encourages international and interdisciplinary collaboration and seeks to involve scientists from developing countries in the worldwide paleo-community. PAGES' research scope includes the physical climate system, biogeochemical cycles, ecosystem processes, biodiversity, and human dimensions, on different time scales—Pleistocene, Holocene, last millennium and the recent past. During IGBP-II, PAGES is updating its research structure which will reflect current questions being asked by the paleo-community and current scientific emphasis.

PAGES Goal

The goal of PAGES is to support all paleo-environmental and paleo-climate research efforts directed at securing a quantitative understanding of natural and human-induced variations of the Earth system in the past, in order to make sound predictions of future climate, environment and sustainability.
