Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone - LOICZ

LOICZSince 1993, the Land–Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOICZ) project has studied the key role that the coastal zone plays in the Earth System functioning, being the interface where land, ocean and atmosphere meet and interact. LOICZ focus on the fluxes of materials from river catchments to the coastal shelf margins. In 2003 there was a comprehensive integration of the human dimensions into LOICZ second phase (2003-2012) and the project is now co-sponsored by IHDP. LOICZ seeks to inform the scientific community, policymakers, managers and stakeholders on the relevance of global environmental change in the coastal zone.

LOICZ Goal

The goal of LOICZ is to provide the knowledge, understanding and prediction needed to allow coastal communities to assess, anticipate and respond to the interaction of global change and local pressures which determine coastal change.
